Start with dry and wet zones
Separate spare paper products and clean towels from splash-prone surfaces. Do not assume a decorative basket tolerates repeated moisture. Choose a surface you can inspect and clean.
Measure around the tap
Check tap movement, soap dispenser height and space to wash your hands. A narrow tray can still be too long for a pedestal basin or curved shelf.
Make cleaning easy
Pick an arrangement you can lift away in one motion. Empty pooled water and follow the product cleaning guidance. Avoid covering ventilation or blocking access to fittings.
Compare the approaches
| Option | When to consider it |
|---|---|
| Removable tray | Groups a few daily items. Check that water will not pool unnoticed underneath. |
| Freestanding caddy | Adds vertical storage but needs a stable, level position. |
| Existing shelf with small baskets | Can organise spare items without another floor-standing unit. |
Buying a suction or adhesive fitting without checking surface compatibility and load instructions.
Before you choose
Check the exact model, usable dimensions, materials, care instructions and return terms on the retailer’s current listing. Similar names and photographs can conceal different sizes. Make a paper footprint if fit is tight, and start with one item before buying a set.
